Session of a lifetime at Chief O'Neills in Chicago

I just wanted to take a minute to say how much fun I had the other night at Chief O'Neills pub in Chicago, IL. I have to travel to Chicago about every other month and I try to always take my Fiddle with me to play in sessions when I go. The last time I visited Chief O'Neills pub and enjoyed the session so much that I decided to go again on this trip. Man was I pleasantly surprised. Right before things started, I looked up from my table and who had walked through the door? Liz Carrol. As if my favourite fiddler of all time was not enough...about five minutes after that, Jimmy Keane (James) showed up to play accordion. Oh baby was it a great session. We played from 8:00pm till about 11:30 or so. Getting to sit and talk with the two of them between sets was awesome. I got the honor of kicking off a few myself and it was great. Since Liz is a Chicago Native, she shows up from time to time at the pub. I can honestly say that I don't know if I will ever get a chance like that again. If you are ever in the area, stop by on Tuesdays and join in to play.

Session Tune List

After much deliberation, debate and concerted effort, several of us have come up with a list of tunes that we will be playing as sets in the upcoming sessions. The general consensus among the regulars are that we need an established set of tunes that we all play well (or at least we will) on a regular basis. We have all agreed to stick to the list and add to it over time. Here's what we have come up with so far.Father O'Flynn/The Irish Washerwoman/Connaughtman's Rambles (jigs) (tunes/Father%20O%27Flynn,%20Irish%20WW,%20Conaughtman%27s%20Rambles.pdf) Pipe On The Hob/Hag At The Churn/Out On The Ocean (jigs) (tunes/Pipe%20on%20the%20hob,%20hag%20at%20the%20churn,out%20on%20the%20ocean.pdf) Pigeon On The Gate/Cooley's Reel/Jackie Colemans (reel) (tunes/Pigeon,%20Cooley%27s,%20Coleman%27s.pdf) Tuttle's Reel/Ships Are Sailing/Earl's Chair (reel) (/tunes/Tuttle's,Ships,Earl's.pdf) Gallagher's Frolics/Dusty Windowsills/Morrison's (tunes/gallagher%27s%20frolics_dusty%20windowsills.pdf) Flowers of Edinburgh/Miss Mcleod (tunes/flowers%20of%20edinburgh_Miss%20McLeod%27s.pdf) Old Bush/Father Kelly's (tunes/Old%20bush_Father%20Kelly%27s.pdf) O'Rourke's/Monaghan Twig (tunes/wild%20irishman%20_%20o%27rourke%27s.pdf)
